Easter Masterclasses with Hannah Roberts at Holdenby House
17-19 April 2020

The masterclasses, aimed at Conservatoire students and young professionals, are an opportunity to enjoy a retreat at this stunning House and gardens to focus on music, practice and performance.

Holdenby House in Northampton has long had an association with music, and boasts a lavish Music Room as well as the Library, a Piano Room and stunning bedrooms. There will be a resident pianist for all masterclasses, cello ensemble sessions and a public recital on the final day of the course.

The course fee is £450, which includes full board and accommodation (there is a single room supplement).

The minimum age is 18.

To apply for a place, please send us the application form and a recording of your playing. If your playing is known to Hannah Roberts or Leandro Silvera, you may not need to send a recording.

For the recording, you can email a recording of your playing or an internet link to a sound or video recording (please see the application form).

Many students send us a video or sound recording made on their smartphones, which they can email directly from their devices.

The Easter 2020 Cello Retreat is open to a maximum of 15 participants. Through a mixture of full and smaller group work, one-to-one sessions and individual time, both with and without our instruments, we hope to provide an environment for all of us to explore presence in our lives and our music making.

Cello and Alexander Technique Course 

with Gillian Thoday and Margaret Edis

Jersey Academy  14-21 August 2020

Gillian and Margaret have an association that goes back more than thirty years and this will be the eighth year that they have collaborated on summer courses, with the main aim of encouraging greater ease and freedom in performance. Gillian is a highly respected cello tutor and Margaret a very sought after member of the Alexander Technique world, who has specialised for many years in working with musicians of all ages.

The course is for advanced cellists with a minimum of Grade 8 Distinction and at least 16 years old. It will comprise a maximum of ten participants who will receive intensive individual tuition from both coaches, with masterclasses and ensemble work. A resident accompanist is available and the course will end with a public concert at a local church.

The course fee is £750 residential. An Early Bird price of £700 applies for applications received by the end of January 2020. A non-refundable deposit of £150 is due on application.
