Cello Exchange
We are
constantly contacted by players looking for a new cello and also by
cellists seeking to find a buyer for their old instrument. In response
we offer a cello exchange service which is designed to assist both the
buyer and the seller.
If a player wishes to sell an instrument through the cello
exchange, we will assess the instrument and agree a selling price. We
will also discuss the need for any minor repairs or set up work before
the cello is made available for sale. Payment for such work is due only
on the sale of the instrument, unless the cello is still unsold after
twelve months in the Exchange, or if the instrument is reclaimed by the
owner before it is sold.
The owner
insures the instrument while it is at our studio in Ely; we insure the
instrument when it is out on approval. When we find a buyer for the
cello, we ask the buyer to pay the full selling price direct to the
vendor. We will then invoice the vendor for 10% of the selling price,
plus the previously agreed cost of any work carried out on the cello
before its sale.
The Cello
Exchange is now three years old and has sold cellos from £5,000 to £42,000 including fine
instruments by the following makers:
Charles Buthod,
John Carter, George Craske, Thomas Dodd, William Forster
Senior, William Forster Junior, Henry Furber, John Furber, Lockey Hill, Henry Jay,
Thomas Kennedy, Marc Laberte,
Léon Mougenot,
David
Rubio, Wilfred Saunders and Peter Wamsley.
The Exchange has also sold fine cello bows by Dodd, Hill, Ouchard and
Vidoudez.
We are urgently seeking fine cellos between £20,000 and £50,000 on
behalf of cellists looking for a new instrument.
To arrange an
assessment of an instrument for the cello exchange, please call 01353
