This exceptional cello is number 14 out of 33  'Violoncellos of the First Class'  by Simon Andrew Forster and was commissioned by the Hon. Major Legge in 1836 for the Bishop of Oxford.  It is in  extremely good condition, with beautiful warm orange-brown varnish over a golden ground.  The tone is rich, colourful and powerful, with excellent projection in a concert hall. Hill certificate.

A particularly beautiful example of the work of Joseph Hill in exceptionally good condition, made from very fine materials, with a intensely flamed slab-cut one-piece maple back.  The tone is clear and colourful with considerable power, warmth and sweetness.
