Louis Guersan cello 1761

Dodd cello c.1790

This fine cello has a clear and expressive tone and deep golden varnish.  It was the main instrument of a respected soloist and chamber musician for 18 years.  Labelled:
T.DODD, VIOLIN, VIOLONCELLO & BOW MAKER, New Street, Covent Garden.

Michael Kearns cello 1998

Mark Dearlove cello 1847
Length of back: 29½" (752mm)
String length: 26⅞" (684mm)

A very handsome instrument by a respected English maker with a rich, powerful tone and beautiful dark orange-brown varnish.  The cello has recently been well restored and is in very good playing condition.  Labelled:

István Kónya cello 1998

Length of back: 29⁵⁄₈ (753mm) 
String length: 27¼" (692mm)

A stylish cello by a Hungarian luthier made famous by the patronage of Yehudi Menuhin.  This cello has an open, resonant and even tone and a beautiful transparent red-brown varnish over a golden ground.  This was the last cello made by Kónya before his death in 1999.  The cello comes with a certificate  from Stefano Conya, István Kónya's son who lives and works in Cremona, Italy.

French cello c.1890

Length of back: 30⅛" (764mm)
String length:  27¼” (691mm)

A handsome cello with a rich, even and  powerful  tone.  The fine orange brown varnish enhances the beautifully figured maple back and ribs. 

English cello late 20th century

Length of back: 29¾" (757mm)
String length:  27¼” (692mm)
Price: £6,000 (Cello Exchange)

This instrument is in immaculate condition with a colourful tone and good projection.  The varnish is warm gold over a golden ground.
